Faith Stimulus Plan
By Jan Van Hee
A church in Alabama recently gave each member an envelope as they left the Sunday morning service. Each envelope contained $20, $40 or $100. Members were instructed to use the money to help someone who had a need but to take time to consider how to really help rather than just give the money to the first needy person they met. Other rules were: “You can’t spend it on yourself or your family. You can’t give it back to the church. Be creative and make the money go as far as possible.” The idea was to not only help someone who was struggling, but to stimulate faith in both the receiver and the giver as they say God’s blessing.
God has given each of us resources: money, time, talents, compassion, etc. These gifts are not intended for our own selfish use but rather for the benefit of others. Learn to be aware of the needs of other people. Consider what resources God has given you and use them to be of help. There is something about giving to others who are going through hard times that blesses and encourages you as well as them and stimulates both your faith and theirs. Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
